Give a Little, Feed a Lot

Hunger is a reality for 1 in 8 Americans, including millions of children, seniors and working poor. Yet the problem of hunger in the U.S. has remained invisible to most Americans. Many people have the misperception that it is only associated with pockets of society. In actuality, we all know and are in contact with people who are affected by hunger.

With the power of 4th Districts AAF’s 2,000 advertising professionals and 25 local federations throughout Florida and the Caribbean the 4th District AAF will launch a statewide effort to help reduce hunger. The Give a Little, Feed a Lot Partnership will not only raise much needed funds, but also apply the communication skills of the 4th District AAF members to encourage others to take action against hunger.

Feeding America is the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Feeding America’s mission is to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.

A network of more than 200 food banks serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Feeding America network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually. The Feeding America network supports approximately 63,000 local charitable agencies that distribute food directly to Americans in need. Those agencies operate more than 70,000 programs including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs, Kids Cafes and BackPack Programs.

What the 4th District and Local Clubs will do: The 4th District AAF will institute a local competition between clubs. Local clubs will collect funds from their local members as well as place already existing PSAs from the Ad Council in their local markets. Funds collected at the local level will be distributed to the corresponding Florida Association of Banks partner representing the local community. The Florida Association of Food Banks (FAFB) is a 501c(3) organization and is committed to making sure that families that need food can get it in a dignified manner that serves as a real safety net for those who fall on difficult times. Sixteen member food banks serve all 67 counties in the state of Florida. FAFB is affiliated with Feeding America.

The local club collecting the most money for their local food bank will win a National AAF conference registration and hotel stay at the 2010 AAF National Conference in Orlando, Florida next June.

It is all up to you! You can collect $1 per monthly meeting from everyone attending, add a buck to your Addy entry fee or do a special event! Be creative! You have until the Annual Conference where we will announce a winner.
